Dear Friends

It has been shown that probiotic bacteria are effective for the treatment of allergic diseases.  Bifidobacterium longum and Bifidobacterium infantis used in tandom have proven to be effective in the suppression of histimine signaling.

Dev S et al. demonstrated a possible mechanism in their research entitled Suppression of histamine signaling by probiotic Lac-B: a possible mechanism of its anti-allergic effect, in the Journal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2008;107(2):pp159-166.

As they say, histamine plays a central role in allergic diseases.  Their research showed that Lac-B, a mixture of freeze-dried B. infantis and B. longum, had an inhibitory effect on allergy-related histamine signaling.

In a nasal allergy model, rats were treated with a drug that induced allergy-like symptoms, manifesting as a significant rise in their histamine receptor and histidine decarboxylase mRNA expression, increased histidine decarboxylase activity, histamine content, and mepyramine binding activity in the rats’ nasal mucosa.

By treating the rats with a prolonged dosage of Lac-B (40 mg/rat) the researchers were able to significantly suppress both the allergy-like behaviors and all of the above mentioned factors involved in histamine signaling.

Two BioImmersion Synbiotic Formulas have both the B. infantis and the B. longum—they are Supernatant Synbiotic Formula and the No. 7 Systemic Booster. See below in Clinical Notes.

Sincerely yours,

Seann Bardell

The Last Quiz Answer:

Is this a hawk or is it an eagle?  How can you tell?  I’ll give you a hint, it home is Africa.  What do you think?

There really are differences between the two.  Yes, generally eagles are bigger than hawks.  But not always, ie the Red-tailed hawk is bigger than the Australian Little Eagle.  Eagles are more powerful than hawks.  The huge size of the eagle’s wingspan is usually the testimony for their sheer power.  The largest eagles  posses a wingspan of 8 feet, while hawks  maximum is 5 feet.

So what have we here?  I hate to say it but I’m not sure.

Sales of grassfed and organic beef are rising rapidly.  Ten years ago, there were only about 50 grassfed cattle operations left in the US.  Now there are thousands.  How much difference does it make?  Is grassfed really better?  If so, in what ways, and how much?
