Dear Friends

This week we have been looking at research demonstrating important health benefits from the regular consumption of cranberries.

On Wednesday we focused on 2 research articles that highlighted the cranberry’s protective health benefits relative to cardiovascular disease.

Yesterday, the study reviewed cranberries’ help in preventing urinary tract infections. Are you impressed with cranberries yet?

If not, well hang on, for today we will look at research with cranberries’ supportive elements against cancer.

Cranberry has been shown effective against cancer in both animal and human trials.

James Joseph PhD in his wonder book, The Color Code, summarizes a study by biochemist Najla Guthrie of the University of Western Ontario. Guthrie showed cranberries’ ability in reduce breast cancer in mice.

Using three groups of mice, she fed one group a normal, healthy diet.  She gave the second group the same diet but added cranberry juice instead of water to drink.  She fed the third group a normal diet supplemented with cranberry presscake—that is cranberries with the juice pressed out.  To all three groups she gave the same cancer causing toxin.

The results were the following: the cranberry presscake inhibited the incidence of breast tumors by 60%.  In addition, the spread of tumors to the lungs and lymph nodes was markedly reduced in the cranberry presscake group.

There is so much more to say regarding research on cranberry and cancer and we will continue on Monday with more on this topic. Surfice it is to say that an individuals’ diet affect their risk of developing cancer.  Americans eat on the average only 2 to 3 servings of ofruits and vegetables daily, and cancer prevention power lies within these precious foods.  This is the reason we created the Therapeutic Foods supplement line.

Sincerely yours,

Seann Bardell

The Last Quiz Answer:

This little turtle, off the southern coast of Africa, is very similar to ones I used to see while living while living in  Micronesia as a Peace Corps public health official.  In the heat of the day they used to rest in the deepest parts of the lagoon—taking a mid-day snooze.

Dow Chemical Do. asked the EPA for permission to sell Enlist Duo, a toxic weed killer mix of 2,3-D and glyphosate to be used on millions of acres of genetically engineered crops.  If approved, this dangereous new herbicide cocktail would wreak havoc on human and environmental health.

The good new is that it is not too late to stop it.  The EPA is still seeking comments from the public before it makes its final decision.  But the window closes on June 30.  Click here to sign a petition against this poison’s use.  The Environmental Working Group’s goal is to get 50,000 signature.  They need just 18,000 more.  TAKE ACTION.
