A healthy gut microbiome is dependent on strong and proven probiotics, such as the Original strains. They reinforce the GI barrier function to protect us from xenobiotics and pathogens, even binding heavy metals. Moreover, they neutralize carcinogens such as those caused by heterocyclic amines found in blackened meat and elements such as nitrosamines in sausage. By acidifying the epithelial membrane, they enable the absorption of minerals such as calcium and magnesium more readily. And lastly, our chosen strains also support the important task of daily regularity (Syngia et al., 2016; Hardy et al., 2013; Figueroa‐González et al., 2011; Ng et al., 2009).

The Original Synbiotic suggested daily dose: one tsp daily.

Of the many beneficial functions needed to be performed by our probiotic friends, colonizing the GI tract membrane and thereby protecting from our body from pathogens and xenobiotics, is very important. Recent research has shown the link between chronic hyperglycemia, oxidative stress, and weight gain. Hyperglycemia puts our body into a state of oxidative stress, which leads to many pathologies such as diabetes mellitus, obesity, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases (Domingueti et al., 2016).

Ingredients of Weight-Less per capsule

Food Science

The ingredients in Weight-less have been shown to reduce both the states of hyperglycemia and oxidative stress. The Kelp and Bladderwrack polyphenol extracts (phlorotannins) offer organic-certified bioactive ingredients that (1) act on amylase and glucosidase enzymes to optimize post-meal blood glucose and insulin responses and (2) demonstrate that they have a high total antioxidant activity as verified by the Total ORAC 6.0 assay.

The phenols in the kelp and bladderwrack have superior antioxidant activity – a neutralizing effect – on the primary free radical superoxide anion. Superoxide  anion is known as the “mother of  free radicals” because  it also can become a hydroxyl ROS, a nitrogen RNS and a hydrogen peroxide ROS.

Thus, Weight-Less helps prevent post-meal hyperglycemia and has a direct scavenging action on excess free radical generation.  The key is not to totally neutralize all free radical activity but to bring about a healthy redox homeostasis.

Boron is one of the most important minerals in our diet.  How are your boron levels?

The average American’s boron levels are 1 mg/day; and, many studies have shown that the benefits to be derived from boron intake don’t occur until levels of 3 mg/day and above are achieved (Price et al., 2012).

BioImmersion’s Fructo Borate Complex is a new form of boron supplementation that duplicates the exact nature of the molecular structure of dietary boron found in fruits and vegetables— that is, boron in the food chain is always found bound to carbohydrate (US Patent #5,902,049).

Osteoporosis on the Rise: What’s missing?

10 million Americans have osteoporosis; and the numbers are predicted to reach 14 million by 2020 (Burge, 2007).

What is missing in our diets and supplementation to have such an increase in the number of people suffering with osteoporosis?

Many studies show that it is our lack of adequate intake of polyphenols from fruits and vegetables, green teas, and some seeds. Berry polyphenols are found to reduce the risk of age related bone loss.

In fact, Hubert et al. (2014) find a positive association of high berry intake and higher bone mass. The researchers recommend the addition of berries to supplement our daily diet.

Their meta-analysis study, Dietary Polyphenols, Berries, and Age Related Bone Loss: A Review Based on Human, Animal and Cell Studies, evaluated human and animal studies and found strong associations between polyphenol intake, reduced fracture risk, increased bone formation markers, and increased BMD (Hubert et al., 2014). For similar studies, see also Welsh, 2012; Hardcastel, 2011; Hooshmand, 2011; Langsetmo, 2011; Arjmandi, 2010; Burge, 2007; Garrett, 1990.

A protocol for added phenols and boron:

Food Science

Strengthen your phenol dietary intake with our High ORAC Synbiotic Formula. The High ORAC includes a collection of berries and fruits with their extracts. Osteoarthritis Support

Rosehips and boron provide significant reduction in pain associated with osteoarthritis (OA).

Through improved detection methods, OA is proving to be an inflammatory condition where inflammatory pathways are up-regulated with low-level increases in C-reactive protein (Spector, 1997; Abramson, 2004).

Therapeutic Food recipe to support the reduction and prevention of Osteoarthritis:

Food Science

Fructo Borate Complex:  In their inital 2011 pilot study research from Scorei et al. sought to determine whether 15 days of dietary supplementation with fructo borate could acutely modulate inflammatory and lipid blood markers in individuals with primary OA.

Out of 116 initial sujects 60 completed the study as designed.  The aim was to compare the effects of fructo borate to placebo.  The inflammatory biomarkers looked at were C-reactive protein (CRP), fibrinogen (FBR) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR).

These inflammatory markers were convincing because in all the boron-supplemented participants levels of CRP, FBR and ESR were reduced but not in the ones receiving the placebo.

If you click on the Fructo Borate Complex link above it will take you to our monograph on this product and the original research conducted on it in Yugoslavia by Miljukovic et al., where they demonstrated significant reduction in pain, swelling and in an increased mobility in affected arthritic joints.  They utilized the WOMAX Index and the Newnham Criteria.

Phyto Power:  contains three species of wildcrafted Alaskan Rosehips (the whole fruit and seeds), four species of wildcrafted dandelions (aerial parts 90% w/w, roots 10% w/w and flower), and four species of wildcrafted blueberry (fruit >95% w/w and leave and stems < 5% w/w).

Christensen et al, in their meta-analysis, looked at three studies of 287 OA patients over a 3-month trial and concluded that rosehip powder consistently reduced pain scores and that patients taking the rosehip were twice as likely to respond as the placebo group. In contrast to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and aspirin, rosehip has anti-inflammatory actions that do not have ulcerogenic effects and do not inhibit platelets nor influence the coagulation cascade or fibrinolysis. (Christensen, 2008).

Wintheri et al. (2005) studied 94 patients with osteoarthritis of the hip or knee to ascertain the effectiveness of rosehip (Rosa canina or dog rose). They conclude rosehip helps to reduce pain, swelling and suffering; alleviate sympotoms of osteoarthritis, and reduce the consumption of rescue medication. The dosing was 5 capsules (500 mg per capsule) BID for 3 months.  (Note: the dog rose is not a strong rosehip, hence the large dosage.)

High levels of the carotenoid lycopene are found in the Alaska rosehip.  Lycopene has gained attention for its strong antioxidative capabilities and for its potential to play a protective role against a number of chronic diseases, including osteoarthritis (Rao, 2007).
