Neurological Support

Dear Friends

Longevity research teaches us that when we turn to a whole food plant-based diet, with less meat, dairy, and eggs (and refined, processed foods), we lower inflammation in every cell of our body. As we have discussed in our recent emails on the longevity field of study, inflammation is the root causative factor for most all of our chronic diseases.

Breakfast is a major meal, and hence our notoriously delicious breakfast drink that indeed lowers inflammation with a host of major nutrients that deeply nourish and energize your body. And the breakfast drink does so much more: it lubricates the bowels with fiber and polyphenols, lower cholesterol to benefits the heart, supports the liver, kidneys, immune system, brain, aids in blood sugar regulation, and fortifies bones and joints. It is an amazingly healthy drink.

Here is BioImmersion’s famous morning drink: a breakfast meal all by itself.

In a blender add: (for one person)

  • Be Regular:  Optimal Bowel Health-  1 heaping tbls.

Dear Friends

Cellular Senescence means that cells cannot divide due to multiple reasons,  with inflammation posing as one of the greatest. Cellular Senescence hastens the development of chronic diseases like cardiovascular, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, dementias, cancer, immune and kidney dysfunction, IBD, and osteoarthritis among many others.

Current research has shown that certain plant polyphenols (i.e. quercetin and fisetin) are strong senolytic agents (molecules that stop senescence), and have exciting potential  for reducing and preventing senescence, which reduces the risk for developing chronic disease, and even reverses the onset of chronic illnesses and geriatric syndrome.  Research is now focused on the utilization of senolytic molecules in therapies.

The No. 7 Systemic Booster: the New Longevity contains both of these powerful phenolic flavonoids, quercetin and fisetin, within its high-active fruits and vegetables.  Daily dosing at 1 tsp supports the body’s ability to to fight against chronic disease.  (See Further Notes below)

Further notes on cellular senescence:

Chronic low-grade inflammation (LGI) in the body is an etiological factor in chronic disease and it is also a causative force in cells going into senescence.  Cellular senescence is characterized as a state where cells: (1) lose their ability to divide and renew their healthy functionality; (2) become resistant to apoptosis (cell death); and  (3) increase their production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and secret into their external environment pro-inflammatory cytokines, bradykines, prostenoids, miRNAs, damage-associated molecular pattern proteins (DAMPs), and other pro-inflammatory mediators, chemokines that attract immune cells.  In other words, these cells create more inflammation; more collateral damage that can lead to pathology.  This condition is called a senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP).

Senescent cells have been identified at sites of pathology in multiple diseases.  They accumulate in adipose tissue in diabetes and with age-related metabolic dysfunction, osteoarthritic joints, the aorta in vascular hypo-reactivity and atherosclerosis and the lung in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.  Transplantation of small numbers senescent cells around the knee joint can cause osteoarthritis (Zhu, Y., et al. 2015).

Therefore, the discovery of strong senolytic molecules  present in certain vegetables and fruits that  are able to delay, prevent, or alleviate a number of chronic  diseases is very exciting. The No. 7 Systemic Booster: the New Longevity is a great starting point to reduce inflammation and deeply nourish our cells with the nutrients they need to function healthily.

Our findings here give support for the speculation that these agents [senolytics] may one day be used for treating cardiovascular disease, frailty, loss of resilience, including delayed recovery or dysfunction after chemotherapy or radiation, neurodegenerative disorders, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, other bone and joint disorders, and adverse phenotypes related to chronologic aging.  Theoretically, other conditions such as diabetes and metabolic disorders, visual impairment, chronic lung disease, liver disease, renal and genitourinary dysfunction, skin disorders, and cancers could be alleviated with senolytics (Zhu,Y. et al., 2017).

Dear Friends

Doctors and their patients are discovering the addictive taste of the No 7 Systemic Booster. The quality of this rich bitter chocolate taste comes alive with any juice: apple, orange, pineapple, any berry, and even carrot or beet. Taking the No 7 in just water produces a very dark, bitter, chocolate drink (although there is not chocolate in this mix!). But a little diluted juice, and the chocolate taste comes alive.

The No 7 Booster is a serious, uncompromisingly healthy drink. There are no sweeteners, fillers, or natural flavors to muck up the real power of the blend. Typically, artificial, natural, or even organic flavors have from 100-500 different components that are not required to be listed on the label. The No 7 is as pure as it is powerful.

The No 7 has our famous probiotic mix with its Supernatant and ORNs. For those of you who are waiting to have the LactORN back – we have the ORNs (known in the scientific literature as microRNAs) now in the No 7, High ORAC, Cranberry Pomegranate, and the Beta Glucan.  We have decided to pull the incredible immune boosting abilities of the microRNAs into our formulas.

Life is getting more polluted, and chronic illnesses more difficult to treat. The No 7 is an effective tool with high actives and polyphenols from purposely selected veggies, greens, fruits, berries, extracts, nutriceuticals, and our super probiotic mix.

Dear Friends

Parkinson’s is a neurological disease characterized by mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress in the dopaminergic neurons of the mid brain, causing them to die, resulting in motor dysfunction.

Parkinson’s (PD) has been positively associated with two groups of pesticides, those that impair mitochondrial function and those that increase oxidative stress.  Two such pesticides are paraquat, which causes oxidative stress, and rotenone, which inhibits mitochondrial complex I, both induce loss of nigral dopaminergic neurons and behavioral changes associated with human PD.

Epidemiological findings suggest that the consumption of berries rich in anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins may reduce PD risk.  Strathearn et al. (2014) demonstrated powerful protective effects of blueberry extract in protecting the neurons from the oxidative damage of the pesticides.  In their study, they investigated whether extracts rich in anthocyanins, proanthocyanidins, or other polyphenols, suppress the neurotoxic effects of rotenone in a primary cell culture model of PD.

Extracts rich in anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins exhibited greater neuroprotective activity than extracts rich in other polyphenols, and a number of individual anthocyanins interfered with rotenone neurotoxicity.  The blueberry and grape seed extracts rescued rotenone-induced defects in mitochondrial respiration in a dopaminergic cell line.

Dr. Mary Ann Lila, one of the study’s team of scientists, and the director of North Carolina State University’s Plants for Human Health Institute stated:

Blueberries have both of these natural chemicals (anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins) in high concentrations, so they pack a more powerful, one-two punch.  They can have synergistic benefits that surpass many other fruits when it comes to protection against brain cell death, which in turn may reduce the risk of contracting Parkinson’s.(Moore, 2014)

A cup a day is a good routine for health, according to Lila, and it provides abundant amounts of vitamins A and C, fiber, manganese and phytonutrients, which have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.  Blueberries are also a “brain food”, and have been shown to increase powers of concentration and slow cognitive degeneration.

Our  Blueberry Extract (1 capsule) has a cup and a quarter of blueberries, while the Phyto Power (2 capsules) has 200mg of four species of wild harvested blueberries plus 400 mg of rosehips with their powerful collection of flavonoids including proanthocyanidins.

We will focus on these cognitive benefits in our next Forward Thinking.

It is estimated that one million people suffer from Parkinson’s in the U.S., and although the disease itself is not fatal, complications arising from it can be, and the CDC states that these co-morbidities result in it being the 14th leading cause of death in the country (National Parkinson Foundation).

Dear Friends

Last week one of our doctors reported the following successful protocol for a new patient with a declining condition of Parkinson’s Disease (PD).  The patient could barely walk.

After analysis, the doctor added these three products:

After two months the patient is now walking 4 miles a day.  And was having increasingly long stretches where she was feeling very well.

Gao et al., (2012) found that daily intake of dietary flavonoids lowers the risk of developing Parkinson disease in a large cohort of 49,281 men and 80,336 women that were followed for 20-22 years.  In general, high amounts of flavonoids, such as anthocyanins, quercetin, epicatechin, and proanthocyanidins were found to be protective. People who eat less blueberries and strawberries are more likely to develop PD. During that time 438 men and 367 women developed Parkinson Disease. Other studies show that blueberry and strawberry extracts increase dopamine release alleviating oxidative stress and suppressing neuroinflammation (Balk et al., 2006).

A number of factors play into the risk reduction or even a turnaround into better health: researchers have known for a long time that more fiber and lower animal fats reduce the risk of PD (Renoudet et al, 2012). The combination of fiber, probiotics (to produce L-dopa), and polyphenols in the Beta Glucan and No 7 all play part in the healthy functioning of our nervous system.

Our protocols add the Phyto Power and Blueberry Extract for a powerful addition of polyphenols. We’ll discuss these two products in our next email.
